Favorite Number Challenge

Posted by Tammy

Patti, guest host over at Create a Connection, challenged us to find our favorite number displayed in our every day lives. My favorite number is 13. I saw it this morning when playing with my new World of Warcraft character, Purnima. She was level 13. I snapped a shot of my screen!

1/12/08

I've been having so much fun with Purnima today that she is already level 18! She is a Tauren Shaman (with engineering as a profession - hence the green goggles!) Purnima means "full moon" in Hindi.

I have wanted to photograph this before, and I finally did it! I open the checks here at work, and my shiny letter opener sometimes pulls the paper into these pretty curls! Every time it happens, I smile! Silly, but fun!

Weekend Fun!

Posted by Tammy

I'm late in posting these photos. Last weekend, I went to my best friend Andrea's house. She invited several people for a "tree-trimming festival"! :) Her friends Dana, Stacey, Shirley and I were there to help Andrea and her daughter Savannah trim their Christmas tree!

I haven't put up a Christmas tree since about 1997. My cats (at the time) Oscar and Lissy knocked my tree over, breaking a lot of ornaments. I haven't put one up since! I have TONS of holiday decorations that are going unused in my basement (which is just sad...) So, when Andrea invited me, I was excited to help! Savannah and I had a good time putting up the lights and the garland. She held the bulk of it and untangled it as I wrapped it around.

We all had a good time placing ornaments on, listening to Christmas music, and eating cookies and having cocoa. The weather outside was quite frightful - snowing like crazy (so pretty!) but we were having fun inside!

THIS Saturday was Mike's birthday! We had dinner on Friday night to celebrate - we went to Carrabba's - his favorite Italian in our town. He isn't a steak eater normally, but loves theirs! It's so good! We went all out - had wonderful appetizers (zucchini fries!!), drinks, yummy dinner, and to top it all off... Blue Bell Vanilla Ice cream!! Blue Bell isn't sold up here - it's a southern thing - Mike grew up with it. It is truly the best ice cream ever! Well, Carrabba's serves it! Yummy!!

We were going to go out for breakfast on Saturday, but Mike wasn't feeling great, so we stayed home and went out on Sunday morning! He had a good day in spite of not feeling great. I got him good presents! :) A ThinkGeek.com gift certificate, some jammies, and the oddest gift of all... ground Yak meat. It's his favorite thing ever, and hard to find! We had yak burgers for dinner - it really is yummy!

On Sunday afternoon, I met Andrea and Savannah to see a movie. We went to Mr. Magorium's Wonder Emporium. This was an unexpected treat. I really loved this movie. In fact, it's likely I'll buy it on DVD when it comes out! Dustin Hoffman is wonderful as always. The message of the movie was wonderful!! My favorite quote:

Your life is an occasion, rise to it.

I had to post this video! I'm in love with Dancing with the Stars - have been for a while now! This is my favorite dance so far this season. Helio and Julianne just rocked this great quickstep!!

My favorites (Mark and Sabrina) have already been eliminated so I'm pulling for Jennie and Helio to be in the finals! Enjoy!!

Pumpkin Soup, Wine, Jewelry, Oh My!

Posted by Tammy

Last night was a very fun evening! I went to my friend Andrea's to look through all of our jewelry orders and to get my free jewelry!! We had our party about 2 weeks ago - the jewelry is a company called Premier Designs - home parties. Amy was our rep and she was just great!! (on the right - all of our orders and our wine!)

Whoo hoo! We had to look at all the jewelry everyone else ordered too. So pretty! There was a lot of other stuff I liked that didn't even catch my eye in the catalog!

First though - the wine! I brought a bottle of white wine home from North Carolina (in my suitcase!) and I brought it to share with Andrea. It was a 2005 Seyval Blanc from the Silver Coast Winery. I wish we'd actually visited the winery, but not on this trip! It was a really yummy wine! Very fruity, and a little sweet with a hint of apricot and pineapple! I'm going to just enjoy the whites since I can't drink the reds! :)

Next up - the jewelry!! We couldn't wait until after dinner. We opened every order that our guests had placed. We needed to see the jewelry in person! :) Everything is gorgeous, of course.

Then the really fun part - opening each of our orders!! Wow! I'm amazed at how much we were each able to order!
The fun part was opening our own free jewelry! We somehow managed (as we often do) to come out exactly even - not only dollar-wise, but number of pieces. We each had 11 (yes, eleven!) boxes to open!! Pshew!! Can you say FUN!? We only had one item in common. Andrea got a lot of earrings and rings. I opted for more necklaces and bracelets. Narrowing down our choices was the hardest part -so it was really great to see what we'd finally picked out! The only piece we got that was duplicated was a bracelet set called the Three Amigas. (appropriate!) - three bangles, one gold, one silver, and one copper.

We each put on ALL of our jewelry to take pictures - and were just a little silly! Savannah, Andrea's daughter helped us - and laughed at us. She is used to us being so silly though!!

Last, but not least, we made a wonderfully yummy pumpkin soup!! It is quite simple. The hardest part was cutting the pumpkin! I'll post the recipe and photos tomorrow! I must be in a soup mood. I just made a really yummy split pea soup for our dinner tonight as well!!

Don't forget to turn back your clocks everyone (in the US States that do that!) Happy Day 3 of NaBloPoMo!!

It's Friday!!

Posted by Tammy

Whoo Hoo! :) I'm glad the weekend is almost here. It hasn't been a bad week, just long!

Tonight, I'm going to my best friend Andrea's house. We co-hosted a jewelry party about 2 weeks ago, and all of our "loot" has arrived!! We have to go through it all, of course, and separate out my orders from hers. BUT - the best part... we each had over $300 free to spend on jewelry!! The party was a huge success, and boy, was it ever fun picking out jewelry!! (Thanks everyone who came to the party, and ordered!!)

We're going to have a little party of our own tonight. She is going to make a yummy pumpkin soup! I'm bringing the wine and bread. I have a bottle of wine that I packed in my suitcase from North Carolina to try out. I can't drink red (causes migraines) so I've decided I'm going to try all kinds of white instead. I love wine, and there is NO reason I can't drink white instead!! :)

I'll take pictures of our fun jewelry and post tomorrow! I have other ideas about my every day posts for the rest of the month, but I have to do some advance planning (this weekend!). I want to scan some photos, dig out some recipes, make some new artwork. (Vicki - be on the lookout for NEW art! {Vicki is my sister, and she was chiding me yesterday for the lack of new art!})

November is going to be fun - I just know it! :) Since I'm writing every day - tell me what you want to know about me! I'll write about it! Leave me a comment!

Happy Hallowe'en!!

What Your Halloween Habits Say About You

You're a friendly person, but not the life of the party. You like making someone else's day - and you'll dress up if you think of a really fun costume.

You definitely think of yourself as someone who has a dark side. And part of having that dark side means not showing it.

Your inner child is full of wonder and very sweet.

You truly fear the dark side of humanity. You are a true misanthrope.

You're prone to be quite emotional and over dramatic. Deep down, you enjoy being scared out of your mind... even if you don't admit it.

You are a total overachiever and workaholic. You're the type of person who plans their elaborate Halloween costume weeks in advance.

Leaving... On a Jet Plane...

Posted by Tammy

Don't know when I'll be back again... OK, so I do know when I'll be back! Mike and I leave tomorrow morning for a vacation!! We are heading south to North Carolina (does that even make sense!?) to the Raleigh area and surrounding places. Including the OCEAN!! WHOO-HOO!

We'll be back in a week, and I hope I'll have lots of fun trip stories and photos to share! If I owe you a swap package - it's in the mail! No, really! I got everything mailed out that was supposed to go out (I think and HOPE!) :)

I'll leave you with my newest ATCs (which have also gone postal!) for Halloween! Have a great week and I'll catch up with you when we return!

Long time, no meme

Posted by Tammy

Cheesy title? Check!! Crazy list of questions? Check! I borrowed this meme from DebR, who borrowed it from... you get the picture! :)

Ocean or Lake? Ocean! For sure!! I'm going there in a couple weeks! :) (the Atlantic - Wrightsville Beach, NC!)

Pizza or Chinese? I like both, but I guess I'd usually choose Chinese over pizza given that choice!

Mansion or Penthouse? Probably neither. I'd never really want the space of a mansion, and I don't think I'd like living at the heights of a penthouse! I'd choose a house on the beach!

Have you been on a Jet Ski? Nope - not interested thank you!

Are you afraid of clowns? Yes, isn't everyone?!

How many brothers/sisters do you have? I have three brothers - Tom, John, Joe. I have four sisters - Connie, Rhonda, Mary, and Vicki.

Favorite band/group? I don't know if I can narrow it to a favorite - I like so much different music!

Baseball or football? Both! I have lived in Colorado my whole life, so I have to root for the Broncos! (And I do, regularly - watch football that is!) I love baseball too, but I rarely see a game. I like to go to Rockies games, but haven't in quite a number of years... they're not as fun to watch on TV.

Favorite brand of makeup? Makeup?! I don't really wear the stuff. What I do have is Mary Kay as my best friend, Andrea, used to sell it. I only put on makeup for a special dress-up occasion! (I used to always wear eyeliner/mascara, but Mike told me he prefers me without it... so who am I to question?!)

Do you have an IPod? I don't. It might be fun to have one though... someday, maybe...

Bike or scooter? I don't have either, but I'd choose a bike.

Ever go in a hot air balloon? I haven't. I think I'd like to try, but the height fear might be hard for me! Maybe someday though!

What brand computer do you have? It's Mike's, but I think it's a Dell!

How many times have you been to Disneyworld? I haven't been to World, but Land several times.

Favorite city? It's not Fort Collins (where I live now...) I'd have to say I loved Manhattan - to visit. I love Seattle a lot and think I could live there for sure! Hopefully, I'll love Raleigh, NC when we visit as we might wind up living there!!

Do you think you are fat? I don't like this question! As Deb said though, I know I'm overweight. I have never called myself fat though. I want to be healthier and I'm working on that, slowly. We have an exercise bike on the way, so we're trying to change habits (Mike and I both!)

Ever throw up in a public place? I'm sure I did in school, but I don't remember for sure. (and, ICK! What a question?!)

Do you have a pool? Nope, not many pools outdoors in Colorado. It used to be too cold to have one, but it's gotten warmer since I was a kid!

How many times a month do you go to the movies? I probably make it about once a month, maybe.

Last movie you saw? The last movie I saw was ... hmmm... I can't remember! I'm planning to go see Hairspray tomorrow!

Do you chew ice? Yes. Not always, but some.

Have you been to California? Yes, many times - my dad has lots of family there. And my folks live in Desert Hot Springs for the winters.

Last book you read? I re-read a childhood favorite called The Trolley Car Family. I'm reading a great, intriguing book now called The Echo Maker. It's very fascinating - I started slow, but now I really want to know what happens!

Do you like to go fishing? NO! Absolutely zero interest in this activity!

Favorite professional team? The Denver Broncos.

Do you like mohawks? Not particularly.

How many pairs of shoes do you own? I don't know for sure, but I think Mike would tell you "too many"... I think probably only around 30 pairs.

Do you floss? Not as often as I should!

Do you have braces? I don't know, and never have. I probably should have.

Do you bite your nails? No, and I never have.

What is your last thought before falling asleep? "I wish this cat would get out of my face"... with five cats, there is almost always one trying to cuddle up!

Do you fall in love easily? I don't think so. But with Mike it wasn't hard!!

Ever have a crush and they never knew? Of course!

Do you babysit? I used to, all the time! But, now, it's been MANY years... I would do OK with a baby, but toddlers/kids would try my patience too much I'm afraid.

Ever been shot at? NO! (who came up with these questions?)

Do you consider yourself nice? I think some of the time I am. I know I can be pretty grumpy too, and I get really irritated with stupid people (like when driving!)

Do you go to camp for the summer? I used to, as a kid. Every summer, we went to camp in Durango.

Have you been on a boat? I have - it's been a long time. It's not my favorite activity because I get motion sick!

Ever break a bone? Not that I'm totally sure of. I think I broke a toe once a long time ago, but it wasn't "official". It still hurts if I ding it!

What is your ultimate job? Working out of home - doing art, creating websites.

Do you want to walk on the moon? Not really. I love seeing the view of it from here, but I don't think I want to go there.

Can you name the seven dwarfs? I doubt it... Dopey, Sneezy, Doc, Sleepy, Grumpy, Happy, Slappy, Wacko, and Dot... Oh, wait...

Favorite TV show? Alias. Yes, I know, it's been cancelled. But it's still my favorite. The one that's still on? Dancing with the Stars. And I like Lost too. I am hoping Season 3 comes out in time for us to watch it before Season 4 starts!

Apples or oranges? I prefer Oranges. But, I can't eat citrus... so I eat an apple now and then...

Favorite model of car? I'm not a huge car fan. I do notice old cars though - I like the old muscle cars - GTO, GTX, etc. They catch my eye!

Favorite flower? Stargazer Lilies!! (and Roses!)

Favorite color? Green

Ever climb out your bedroom window? I don't think so. I had a door out onto a "balcony" when I was a kid, so I didn't have to go out a window.

Do you live in an apartment or house? House

How many times in the last month have you had the hiccups? Many - I get them pretty frequently!

Ever laugh so hard milk came out your nose? I don't drink milk! But other liquid, yes, I have!

How many cousins do you have? I really have NO idea - but lots. I think at least 12 first cousins.

Do you believe in ghosts? Yes.

If you were a bird, what would you be? I don't really like birds, but I'd choose one who gets to live somewhere tropical!

Ever get stitches? Only when I had surgeries.

If you could, would you want to know what your future was going to be? No - I don't think so. Although I'd really like to know where/when Mike and I will be moving!!

If you could change your name, what would it be? I've thought about this one. I'm not a big fan of Tammy. I've considered trying to go by my middle name, Dale... I was told once I should change my name to Phaedre. (fay-dra)

Dogs or cats? I only have cats - I think I'll always have cats. But, I do love dogs too! We saw the most adorable black pug this morning and loved on it for a few minutes. I wanted to bring him home with us!!

Do you believe in love at first sight? I'm not sure. As I said, with Mike, it was easy, and relatively quick! I don't know if I loved him at first sight, but there was definitely something there!

Do you go to church? No.

Would you marry outside your religion? I don't have a religion, so I guess, I'd marry no matter what as long as he were accepting of me! (Mike and I see eye to eye, so this is a good thing!)

Ever ride in a limo? I have! It was fun - my senior prom with two other couples. We were geeky enough that we sang (and harmonized) songs from our choir while riding back from our dinner to the prom!

Ever drink champagne? I LOVE champagne. I was lucky enough to have a glass (two actually since Mike doesn't like it) when he took me out for dinner for my birthday on Wednesday. The manager of the restaurant brought us glasses to help us celebrate (and to make up for Mike's undercooked steak - which they also replaced and made perfect!)

OK - that's it for the Tammy Trivia round! Let me know if you decide to answer these on your own blog! It's fun to read all about you!! :)

Cool Vase

Posted by Tammy

My coworker Pete (who is also my boss' husband) is learning to blow glass. He's been taking lessons for a couple months now.

The stuff he makes, while not perfect, is truly amazing!! I love seeing his new creations every week! The very first week he brought stuff in to show us, there was this adorable little fluted vase. (It was supposed to be a tumbler, but didn't turn out quite the way he intended.) I LOVED it. I would have purchased it if I'd seen it in a store and I told Pete this.

Well... he remembered this, and made a vase for me several weeks later! It is gorgeous!! I love it. Now I can say - I have an original Pete, once he's famous of course! :) I filled up this great vase with some flowers from my garden - just look how cute! It makes me happy!

It is the first day of summer (and Colorado is celebrating with 100 degree temps!! Yikes!)

Also, Happy Birthday to my Mom! And Happy Anniversary to my parents!! (I think it's their 43rd, but I'm not positive about that!) They are travelling, so hopefully I can catch them on the cell phone at some point today! We'll celebrate everything when you get to Colorado in a few weeks!!

Flower Crazy!

The flowers have gone absolutely crazy at our house. My wildflower garden is just so spectacular. I've taken SO many pictures... I had to share some of them here! If you want to see more - go to flickr! :) Happy Sunday!

And the poppies... they deserve a whole post of their own - they are SO pretty and cheerful! I haven't ever seen a pink poppy, but we have one (maybe more - we'll see when they all bloom out!!)

The music playing is Harry - from this >>> album. A tribute to New Orleans and the people affected by Hurricane Katrina.

Monday, monday

Posted by Tammy

Well, here it is Monday again! I have lots of things to share too! First - I missed Photo Thursday last week at Create a Connection, but I still want to participate! :) Nino at Cease Cows was the guest host for May and her theme for last Thursday was Water.

My water picture is from my garden! We have this cool little fountain - it used to be a fish pond, but sprung a leak! Our landlord remodeled it quickly and turned it into this:

It is a little bare around it right now, but once the flowers take hold and start blooming it will look so pretty!! I love the sound of the water too! Here are a few more of my garden and flowers!

On Saturday, Mike and I went
white-water rafting in the Cache La Poudre canyon near Fort Collins!! We had gone once two years ago, and it was SO fun! I got really nervous before hand, but once our trip was underway, it was all fun! I hope I'll have a picture to share, but there are some "technical" difficulties. You see, this rafting company uses the Pigeon Express to get the photos back to the shop before the raft trip is over. The photographer places the digital memory in a little tiny pack attached to a homing pigeon's back. (no, really!) and then the birds fly home and they get the photos ready for when we come back from rafting.

Well, we have bad luck with pigeons I guess. Last time we went, the pigeon actually lost the film. I guess that never happens, but it did for us! So - no picture. This time - the pigeon was very late in arriving and when we headed for home, had not arrived with his film! So, we're waiting to see what happened. I have a call in to find out, but so far no photos! Suffice it to say, we had a great time, but we are REALLY sore! Muscles are protesting the heavy use! Paddling down a river with class 2 and 3 rapids is hard work!! But, oh so enjoyable!

And, I actually made some art yesterday!! Shocker! I pulled out the old Sharpies and I made three ATCs for a "music" theme swap! Yay! It was fun. I think the fumes went to my head! :) I'm packing these up to send off today!

And last but not least, I got fun mail last week! Remember that fun tea swap I was in a month or so ago? Well, Mary Ann and her sister - the hostesses - sent out great little thank you packages. They put a lot of work into these and it was so sweet!! Thanks guys!! You make swapping loads of fun!! Can't wait for the next one!

Oh, and ONE MORE THING! I won something!!! Something very fun - although it is a surprise as to what I'm really getting. Jolene of The Blue Cottage had a contest in May - if you commented on her blog - she entered your name in a drawing... Well yours truly won the drawing. Jolene is sending me a handmade journal!! I'm SOOOO excited! Jolene and her daughter Jill are two of my favorite bloggers. I bought a journal on ebay that Jill made, and now I will have one of Jolene's too! How lucky can a girl get?! :) Yay!

HAPPY Friday!

Posted by Tammy

Wow!! I just had a surprise! Mike showed up outside my office window (got me all discombobulated while I was on the phone!) He just got into town from his business trip, and he stopped by and brought me flowers!! WOW! :) What a pleasant surprise for a Friday afternoon! Yay!

I'll have to go home and arrange them in a nice vase! So pretty! :) Love the little wax flower fillers too.

I also got my hair cut last night, and I'm loving it! I needed a shorter "do" for summer - my hair was getting long, heavy, and too hot! I don't have a before shot... but it is much shorter, and flippier! :) Fun fun! Way to start a weekend, huh? Hope you all have a great one!

Getting to Know You Wednesday

Posted by Tammy

Paintergirl is guest-hosting Getting to Know You Wednesday's this month over at Create a Connection.

Today she wants to know:

"If someone from your local community college approached you about teaching a class, would you do it? What subject? Would there be field trips? What books would be required reading? Any guest lecturers?"

I don't know if I would do it or not... I am not a teacher (at least I don't think I am!)

OK - now don't laugh at me here, but this is something Mike and I have actually talked about... We play World of Warcraft (rather obsessively actually)... and we have quite a lot of success using the in-game auction house to earn gold for our characters.

We have talked amongst ourselves (my inner Linda Richman just came out there...) and we truly could teach an economics class using the in-game economy of World of Warcraft! The fine art of under-cutting your OWN price is all over the place!

There would definitely be in-game demonstrations! Screen shots to demonstrate our point... and of course, everyone in the class would receive free 2-week passes from Blizzard so they could create their own characters - and we could pass our addiction on to others!

Field trips would need to be in-game - so travels to Outland, Darnassus, Ironforge, Orgrimmar - all would be on the agenda - no nightelf, gnome, troll, or orc would be left out! Our guest lecturers would include Banesidhe {ban-shee} (my level 52 Night Elf Druid - an auction house expert, alchemist, herbalist, and all around nice elf), Demondim (Mike's level 56 Troll Mage - also an auction house expert, alchemist, herbalist... good thing we're not on the same side here!!) and Daoinesidhe {theena-shee} (my level 66 Gnome Mage - an expert in gathering and selling!)

No books required! Just a computer, and a wide imagination!

OK... bit of silliness over! That was fun! :)

A Silly, but fun, Quiz

You're Anne of Green Gables!

by L.M. Montgomery

Bright, chipper, vivid, but with the emotional fortitude of cottage cheese, you make quite an impression on everyone you meet. You're impulsive, rash, honest, and probably don't have a great relationship with your parents. {I actually DO have a good relationship with Mom and Daddy!} People hurt your feelings constantly, but your brazen honestly doesn't exactly treat others with kid gloves. Ultimately, though, you win the hearts and minds of everyone that matters.

You spell your name with an E and you want everyone to know about it.
{because of course, everyone knows, "A-n-n looks dreadful, but A-n-n-e looks so much more distinguished."}

Take the Book Quiz
at the
Blue Pyramid.

Anne of Green Gables is in my top five favorite books! It is fitting this is what I got in this quiz!! :)

Wonderful Synchronicity!

Posted by Tammy

I just left a comment the other day on Potato Prints about thinking I should write in a journal. I've never been good at writing a journal, but have always thought it was something I wanted to do!

I got in to work today to find a package on my chair. It was a thank you gift from my boss, Debby. I had helped her out a couple weeks ago with a last minute gift need. She bought me a journal! And not just any journal - this is called Sojourn. It comes with 8 dice. One is a topic die - you roll it and that is your topic (they include: family, work, love, soul, money, and play) Next, you choose three of seven dice that will give you keywords to think about in conjunction with your topic. These words range all over the place from action to home to fear, imagine, inspire, laugh, care, etc. After you roll the dice, you write based on the words that come up - in any format you choose.

It is truly a cool concept. Sometimes for me, the idea of writing in a journal is daunting because "I don't know what to write". This idea takes that fear away! Thanks Debby! Great timing! :) A new journal for an upcoming new year!
